I am working in partnership with a company called Equator Media based in the UK.
They are a social marketing agency and I am speaking on their behalf at a conference they are organising with i-genius this coming week in Thailand.
One of the projects they were involved in was with a company called AFFORD (The African Foundation for Development) about changing the narrative on Africa. Highlighting enterprise, education, innovation and a diversion from the usual war, disease and political narrative that dominates the other dialogue. Channel 4 in the UK picked up on this project and ran a couple of projects focusing on changing this dialogue.
Now Equator a running a project called Image of Africa. The basic premise is that most stock photography coming from the continent is usually seen through the eyes of non African eyes. This project aims to replace the imbalance by creating a platform for African photographers to have a bank of photographs through their eyes.
